Abstract

Introduction: This paper considers the impact of digital communications in public institutions on the cost of living of populations in South America and the Caribbean.

Methodology: The study was quantitative, descriptive in scope and the sample: percentages of cost of healthy diets from 2018 to 2020 in South America and the Caribbean.

Results: The daily cost of a healthy diet (on average) for three years is higher in the Caribbean at US$0.57 per day per person compared to South America.

Conclusion: Assuming that from 2018 to 2020 the level and frequency of digital communications increased due to the COVID-19 pandemic factor, on the contrary, well-being has decreased (because the cost of a healthy diet has increased) in South America and the Caribbean, and this is a task on which the efforts of public institutions may be concentrated, starting now.
